When One World Montessori School closes its academic doors in June, those same doors quickly re-open to welcome campers to "Camp One World". This program offers a rich variety of activities including academics, athletics, visual and performing arts, and outdoor adventures.
Camp One World emphasizes nature and the environment, those things that the summer itself offers in abundance and full splendor. Whether outdoors on our tree-shaded playground, inside our Montessori classrooms, or in the cool air-conditioned gym, the children are always under the experienced care and guidance of our well-trained staff.
Our summer camp is the perfect place for children to enjoy and share new experiences; it provides unforgettable memories and solid friendships which they carry with them throughout the school year.
Most Friday mornings are designated "Splash Days". We will alternate Splash Days between the Pre-Primary and Primary classes.
Weekly Themes:
*Week 1 (June 1-4) Nature and Gardening: The children will learn about planting, the growing process, and harvesting. An organic gardening expert will work side-by-side with the children as we plant a garden for the school.
*Week 2 (June 7-11)Storytelling Week: We will offer a variety of arts & crafts, science & cooking projects based on entertaining themes coinciding with children's literature books. The week will end with a visit from a storyteller.
*Week 3 (June 14-18) Computer Week: The campers will have the special opportunity to play computer games and learn about computers with the help of a computer teacher.
Week 4 (June 21-25) Cooking Week: The children will learn how to make a new meal each day from start to finish: following a recipe, mixing, cutting, stirring, baking, and presentation. We will end the week with a spaghetti dinner prepared by the children, for their parents.
*Week 5 (June 28-July 2) Under the Sea: We'll explore the great ocean blue through stories, arts and crafts, pictures and puzzles. We will receive a special presentation from the Texas Natural Science Center.
*Week 6 (July 5-9) Safari Week: The campers will spend the week learning about different animals and their homes. The week will end with a special visit from "The Zoo Man", an exotic animals expert.
Week 7 (July 12-16) Space Camp: Our little future astronauts will have a blast learning about the solar system, constellations and stars. Parents and campers will celebrate with a "Star Party" at the end of the week.
*Week 8 (July 19-23) Native Americans: This week we'll explore the arts, crafts, stories and dance of the Native American people who believed that self-reliance and ingenuity were the hallmarks of life well-lived.
*Week 9 (July 26-30) Career Week: "What will I be when I grow up?" The kids will have the opportunity to hear from people who love what they do: including a cameraman, a firefighter, and a veterinarian.
*Week 10 (August 2-6) Puppet Theatre: Every day this week will be spent working on a different puppet project. The children will put on their own puppet show, and enjoy a visit from Mr. Puppet. *Week 11 (August 9-13) Music Week: We will spend each day of the week learning different aspects of music: rhythm, reading notes, singing, and playing instruments with the help of a music specialist. At the end of the week, we will have a parade and a visit from a musician.
*Week 11 (August 16-20) Performance Week: The children will spend the week practicing their singing and dance moves in preparation for our end-of the-summer presentation for parents.
